Honoring Our Country and Our Heroes

The Exchange Club of Daniel Island oversees and supports a number of events on Daniel Island that honor heroes and encourage patriotism for our great country.

Field of Honor

For each year of the past 11 years, the Exchange Club of Daniel Island has installed American flags along River Landing Drive from mid-June through July 4th that allow residents to honor their heroes with a dedicated tag. This year, 1,000 flags were displayed dedicated to heroes that included veterans, first responders, teachers, friends and family lost, and survivors of special challenges.

The display includes raising money for local veteran support groups – One80 Place, Friends of Fisher House Charleston, and Tri-County Veteran Support Network. This year’s event raised over $50,000 for these veteran support groups. The Exchange Club of Daniel Island looks forward to honoring heroes again next year.

America250® Display

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the Exchange Club of Daniel Island put up a display featuring the Declaration of Independence along with the 26 flags that have flown throughout America’s history. This display was located primarily at Guggenheim Terrace from early May through July 4th but also made visits to Bishop England High School, Philip Simmons High School, and Credit One Stadium.
